Veterans Exemptions

The Dix Town Board passed Local Laws Nos. 2 & 3 at the 12/15/08 Board Meeting enabling veterans to receive exemption benefits pertaining to Town taxes commencing in 2010. Local Law #2 known as the Alternative Veterans Exemption 458a, covers veterans that served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Persian Gulf conflict (commencing August 2, 1990), the Vietnam War (February 28, 1961-May 7, 1975); Korean War (June 27, 1950-January 31,1955); World War II (December 7, 1941-December 31, 1946); World War I (April 6, 1917- November 11, 1918); the Mexican Border Period (May 9, 1916-April 5, 1917), or the Spanish-American War (April 21, 1898-July 4, 1902), and have been honorably discharged or released from service. In Local Law #3, the Cold War Veterans Exemption 458b, the veteran must have served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces between September 2, 1945 and December 26, 1991 and been honorably discharged or released from service. As proof of the dates and character of service, a copy of Form DD 214 or other appropriate evidence should be attached to the application. Also necessary are a copy of the most recent town and county tax invoices, the first page of the property deed, and in the case of a disability the letter from the Veterans Administration stating the degree of the disability. Applications are available at the Veterans' Service Agency at the Human Services Complex in Montour Falls.
